DIETARY CONSULTATION IN EXCESS BODY WEIGHT
Obesity is a systemic condition and in 95% of cases is a direct result of excessive energy that our body gets from food. All the energy which is not used by the organism becomes fat. Studies show that more than 70% of Poles are at risk of being overweight or obese, and similar statistics apply also to children. For the last few years obesity in children has been on the rise. Excess fatty tissue has been shown to increase mortality, with abdominal (so-called central) obesity being especially dangerous for our health.
Abdominal obesity might lead to type 2 diabetes, hypertension, impaired cardiac performance, atherosclerosis, low levels of HDL cholesterol, joint disorders, gout, and hormonal abnormalities (sex steroids and corticosteroids). It might also result in the occurrence of hormone-dependent cancers (cervical, uterine, ovarian or prostate cancer).
Dietary treatment in the case of overweight patients or patients with obesity is individual – after a thorough interview and study of their eating habits each patient is provided with their own tailor-made food plan. The best results are achieved when weight loss is slow, approximately 0.5-1 kg per week.
