The procedure can be performed on both younger and older patients. Younger patients may simply desire more prominent cheekbones. In older patients, we can use dermal fillers to make their cheeks look a little fuller and reduce unsightly jowls and wrinkles.
The area is cleaned with an antiseptic and marked using a marker pen to decide on the optimum site for enhancement. Topical local anaesthetic cream may be applied to ensure the treatment is pain-free. Then, the doctor injects small amounts of dermal filler directly into the deeper layers of the skin using an ultrafine needle or cannula. The treatment can take from 20 to 30 minutes.
The patient should be gentle with the treated area for a short time after the procedure. They should avoid touching the area for the first six hours; after this, we recommend to avoid extreme temperatures and take care while washing the face or applying makeup.
Young patients, below 40, are usually satisfied after the first session and the effect lasts for 12-18 months. In older patients, whose loss of skin volume is greater, satisfying effect is achieved after a second procedure performed in 3 to 4 weeks after the first one.
Most possible side effects are related to the action of injecting the skin, not the product itself. These include: redness, minor swelling, itching, soreness around injection site. They are perfectly normal reactions to the injection and they will subside in due course.
